Meet the Teacher Monday

A little about me...

My name is Jenn. I am married to my highschool sweetheart. We have been together for 12 years and married for five and a half. My husband is in the Coast Guard. He is away quite a bit, so we have two beautiful Shelties named Casey and Ally. They are my "fur-babies". They are great company to come home to instead of an empty house. We now live in Ontario, Canada, but are originally from Nova Scotia.
I have 3 siblings that I am very close to: 2 biological and 1 adopted. I also have two nieces and a nephew that I adore! We have a healthy "snail-mail" relationship, as I live 2000 km from them. I also have a new niece or nephew on the way. They love getting colourful packages in the mail from "Aunty Jenn".
Oh! and I also say "Aunt" the "proper" way (not /ant/!) and "tour" rhymes with "four" and "pour"...just a pet peeve!

How long have I been teaching...

I graduated High School in 2001 and went to Crandall University in Moncton, New Brunswick (Formerly known as Atlantic Baptist University). I earned my Bachelor of Arts Honours in English with a minor in Biblical Studies. I also earned my Bachelor of Education, graduating in 2006. I taught a number of short term jobs in everything from K-8, classroom, music specialist and resource. Last year was my first year in a permanent position teaching Grade 1 & 2 at a small Christian School. I love teaching the little ones. Everything is so new and exciting to them! I am also very enthusiastic and dramatic, which goes well with that age group. I also have some ADD tendencies that help me understand the ants in their pants, so we don't sit still that long!

My personal obsessions...

-notebooks. I have no less than 30 in my house. I also love Post-It notes of every shape and colour!
-I adore anything that combines Chocolate and Peanut Butter!
-I love to read youth fiction. I will pick up an "Adult Novel" every now and then and am always shocked by the content! This summer I have worked my way through all of the Ramona books!
-Singing. Anyone who spends any amount of time with me or near me) knows that I cannot stop singing. Everything. All the time! It makes me a good choir director, christmas concert planner, etc, but drives my husband nuts! I have used song lyrics in my Facebook Status for more than 4 months now. Yes. Every. One.

This year I am looking forward to...

Our spring major school production! I know...my coworkers would shoot me for this because it is SOOOO much work, but I LOVE directing and I LOVE the amazing talents that it brings out in the kids. I also remember how much I learned and grew doing productions when I was a kid! This year we are planning a Seuss inspired production! Yeah!

I am also looking forward to a full year of Daily 5, as I started after March Break last year.

Areas I need to improve...

I need to be a better time manager, as my husband hates when I spend all of my "out of school time" talking about or doing school work. I need to leave it at school and separate my life better.
I also need to keep up with my marking/report cards. I tend to let things get ahead of me!

Lastly, I need to stop trying to re-invent the wheel! Because of my ADD personality, I am not good with too much repetition and always want things to be new and different. Things drives me to change things and create new ways to do the same things. I need to realize that I can leave well enough alone when it is working already!

Well, there you have it. Nice to meet you! "Hop" on over to Blog Hoppin and link up so I can learn more about you, too!

See you soon!

  3. Thanks for the tip about the Daily Five graphing! I started doing it and the kids LOVE IT. I think they probably wouldn't even read if I didn't make the new bar at the end of reading time, haha! You're the bomb dot com, thanks again. :)

    Marvelous Multiagers!
